A highly bigoted 1925 Army War College report stated that African American men were of little value in times of war. Jeffrey S. Urbin, Education Specialist at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum, will tell the story of how a group of black men proved they could take down enemy aircraft abroad and racial barriers at home. Interactive discussion topics include: How did the work of the Tuskegee Airmen change attitudes about blacks in the military? How do today’s racial tensions compare to those during the time of the Tuskegee Airmen? What lessons can other minority groups seeking to advance their rights learn from the Tuskegee Airmen?
